Troubleshooting & Limits

Encountering an issue with form submissions, display layouts, or rate limits? This troubleshooting guide covers common questions, error messages, and operational thresholds.

1. Submission Rate Limits & Cooldowns

To defend your website against automated bot flooding and server resource exhaustion, Glow Reviews enforces strict server-side IP rate limiting:

  • Hourly Limit: Maximum of 3 submissions per IP address per hour.
  • Daily Limit: Maximum of 10 submissions per IP address per 24 hours.
  • Cooldown Behavior: When a user exceeds these thresholds, the form returns a temporary cooldown message. Once the time window passes, submissions resume automatically.
  • Testing Tip: When testing the form repeatedly during development, submit from a separate network or reset the transients via wp-admin.

2. Duplicate-Email Handling

If a client submits a review using an email address that already exists in your testimonials database:

  • Glow Reviews prevents the creation of duplicate records.
  • The existing entry is safely updated with the revised rating, review text, and role details.
  • The updated testimonial is immediately returned to Pending Moderation status, requiring you to re-approve it before the new content appears publicly.

3. Photo Upload Restrictions

If reviewers encounter errors while attaching profile photos:

Check Enforced Limit Resolution
File Size 2 MB maximum Compress image before uploading or increase server upload limits.
MIME Type JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF Ensure uploaded files are standard image formats (SVGs and PDFs are rejected for security).
Server Permissions Writable wp-content/uploads Verify directory write permissions on your hosting server (chmod 755).

4. Why Are Testimonials Not Appearing?

If you placed [glowrev-display-testimonials] on a page but nothing is rendered, check these three common causes:

  1. Pending Moderation: Reviews are not published automatically. Check wp-admin > Testimonials > Pending Feedback and click Approve.
  2. Plugin Status: Ensure the Glow Reviews plugin is currently active under Plugins > Installed Plugins.
  3. Empty Database: If your site has no approved reviews yet, the shortcode renders nothing. Use the Sample Content Generator in Tools > Glow Reviews Site Tools to create labelled sample items for layout testing.
